we went on our tabiiku on Oct 23rd. When we got to the sweet potato field, they were so happy and they walked and ran around the field to feel the dirt, touch the vines and leaves, etc.

When the farmer explained how to dig up the sweet potatoes they listened very carefully, and they tried so hard to find sweet potatoes and pull them up. At first, some of the children touched the ground with just the tips of their fingers (so as not to get dirty…) but they soon realized that they can’t harvest a sweet potato that way. So they used their whole hands and all their power to pull them up. Although the farmer said that this year’s sweet potatoes are very thin because the summer was so hot, we harvested many sweet potatoes.

After harvesting sweet potatoes, we walked to Donguri Park. Some of the students were very focused on finding as many acorns as they could while others were shouting happily and sliding down the very long slide. Our picnic lunch was also fun! One girl said that lunch tasted so yummy (when eaten outside for a picnic!) We had such a great time!
