Last week the children learned about some more countries!
On Monday, the students learned about Thailand. A classmate who knew a little Thai taught them how to say “hello” in Thai. They also tried doing Muay Thai, and they made Thai elephants. They wrote their names in Thai using Thai language cards. Everyone was surprised because their writings were so unique.

On Tuesday, we learned about Gambia. We made binoculars to look for birds in Gambia.
The older children drew Gambian birds onto the ‘lenses’ of their binoculars, creating special binoculars that made it seem like the birds could be seen through them.

On Wednesday, the children learned about Saint Kitts and Nevis. They made Johnny Cakes, which are commonly eaten there. They mixed flour, sugar, butter, and milk to make the dough and rolled it into balls. Then we fried them. When they ate them, one of our friends exclaimed, “I’ve never eaten such delicious cakes in my life!”

On Friday, we learned about the United Nations and studied the 17 rules of the SDGs. We split into groups to work on projects of our choice, such as making recycled paper, crafting with recycled materials, and coloring SDG logos. In the afternoon, we took on the challenge of removing oil from water, pretending that the oil had spilled into the sea! We hope this activity becomes a part of their thinking about taking care of our planet Earth.

There are only two weeks left in our Summer Program 2025! We’ll continue to have fun learning!
