We are half way through our eight-week AKIS Summer Program! So many friends have been participating in our program, and we have completed another successful and fun-filled week.

On Tuesday, the children learned about Ukraine. When the teacher first introduced Ukraine, some students commented “This country is in a war now, right?” We cooked Varebyky! The children were very good at wrapping the filling in gyoza wrappers.

On Wednesday, we listened to reggae music. The students used the Jamaican colors of red, yellow, and green to make their own drums. They loved playing their drums! In the afternoon, they ran like Usain Bolt! When we showed a video clip of Usain running, all the students automatically jumped up and ran quickly around the classroom. The older students tried to do a ‘crouching start’. Everyone ran a lot!

On Friday, we learned about ASEAN, and the older students tried to memorize all 10 member countries of ASEAN. We chose to learn about the Philippines (because Ms. Jane is from the Philippines) and the students made a Jeepny.
