our students have been learning nursery rhyme songs which help children enjoy English and develop early reading skills. This week, Penguin and Starfish students sang “Jack and Jill” and “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and Dolphin students sang the “Hey Diddle Diddle” song.

The Dolphin Class students took a while to understand the “nonsense” lyrics, however they came to enjoy singing it. They made “the dish” and “the spoon” to help them think about where they ran away to. They also pretended to be a cow that jumped over the moon, and learned about the phases of the moon. They wrote their version of the “Hey Diddle Diddle” song book.

Starfish and Penguin students became a “Jack” or a “Jill”, and they rolled on a mat and fell down the “mat hill”. We also had a pail (bucket) relay by putting water in it and carrying it.
For the “Mary Had a Little Lamb” song, we played a “Copy Mary” game! Starfish students are now able to play some “group games” which require them to wait their turn and to understand the rules of the game.
