During the last week of January, the children were engaged in many culture-related activities.

They painted two boxes in red, and added a nose, eyes, teeth, etc, to make a “shishimai”. Some of the students remembered that being bitten by a shishimai brings good luck, so as soon as they finished making their shishimai, they put them on to bite each other… Also, the younger students tried to feed the shishimai toy food from our play kitchen!?!

On Thursday, they each made a sumo wrestler to play “ton ton sumo”. They named their sumo wrestlers and had a tournament! They were so excited by this activity!

Then on Friday we cooked “dorayaki”! They mixed flour, eggs, and milk to make two pancakes, and then put anko (sweet bean paste) between them. They enjoyed making and eating them a lot, of course!
