Last week the students continued learning about fruit, especially apples. The older kids learned that apples grow on trees so we started the week by making apple trees.
Because of our Summer School program, we hadn’t done a “big painting” activity for a while so we painted on large sheets of paper and big cardboard boxes!
At first, we planned for only Penguin, Seal, and Starfish class students to paint. However, by the end, Whale class kids had joined in the activity.
Everyone got paint all over their hands and faces. They had such a fun time!

Then each class made “apples”. Penguin and Starfish class students painted paper plates in red, and then on the back side they stuck on apple seeds and a stem.
Seal class students cut circles out of red and yellow paper to make apples. Whale class students made a sphere shape out of paper strips.

Then on Friday, everyone cooked apple sauce! Most of them didn’t know what apple sauce was (maybe because it’s not commonly eaten in their homes).
In spite of that, they eagerly peeled and cut up apples. The Whale and Seal class students ground cinnamon sticks to make cinnamon powder. They kept saying, “Nice smell!!” They ate the applesauce at snack time and most of them really loved it!
